Glanz & Gloria
6th Philharmonic Concert

Description

Austrian musician Selina Ott—the first woman to win the ARD Music Competition in the trumpet category—joins forces with conductor and former principal clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Karl-Heinz Steffens. Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto was revolutionary for its time: written for the newly invented valve trumpet. In his concerto, Reinhold Glière makes the trumpet sing like a human voice. The program is framed by Elgar’s “Introduction and Allegro” and César Franck’s only symphony, whose premiere once caused a scandal.
