Lake Constance Philharmonic’s “Zukunftsmusik” Makes the Longlist for “Wirkt! Kultur in Gesellschaft”

The Lake Constance Philharmonic’s “Zukunftsmusik” project has been selected for the longlist of the “Wirkt! Kultur in Gesellschaft” program. This recognition honors the orchestra’s social commitment and its innovative approach to cultural participation.

With “Zukunftsmusik,” the Lake Constance Philharmonic is reimagining the relationship between the orchestra and society. The project deliberately moves away from the traditional concert hall and brings music to places where people gather: outdoor swimming pools, farms, and other unusual locations throughout the region.

The focus is on dialogue with the community. Citizens, community organizations, schools, scholars, and cultural partners work together with the musicians to develop projects on topics that matter to the region—ranging from democracy and diversity to climate, mobility, and the future of public life.

In the process, the role of the musicians also changes. They become co-creators, facilitators, and conversation partners. Artistic processes emerge in collaboration with local residents, bringing classical music to life in new ways.

An important part of “Zukunftsmusik” is breaking down barriers: The events are deliberately held outside of traditional cultural venues. In this way, the Lake Constance Philharmonic aims to reach people who may not yet have had access to a concert hall.
Being included on the longlist for “Wirkt! Kultur in Gesellschaft” highlights how culture can spark social change and bring communities together. Over the past few years, “Zukunftsmusik” has not only spawned new artistic formats but has also had a lasting impact on the way the Lake Constance Philharmonic operates.
