Description

An enigmatic woman at the fountain, a forbidden love ... Maurice Maeterlinck's drama “Pelléas et Mélisande” inspired Gabriel Fauré to write incidental music, which he later transformed into a sad and beautiful suite. More than three decades later, his compatriot Francis Poulenc drew on a German model when he developed his concerto for organ, strings and timpani from the spirit of Johann Sebastian Bach. The celebrated organist Christian Schmitt will transform the concert hall into a church with his own Queen of Instruments. Richard Strauss, on the other hand, was inspired by the past of the Roman ruins for his symphonic fantasy “From Italy” - but used Neapolitan folk life as an alternative: Funiculì, funiculà ...
